International Medical Aid Adds Personalized Guidance to MCAT Score Calculator
Updated resource connects MCAT practice results with next steps ahead of 2027 MCAT registration

International Medical Aid (IMA) made an update to its MCAT score calculator that adds personalized interpretation based on a student’s GPA, score source, medical school plans and application timing. The update is intended to help students identify next steps after reviewing their results.
IMA’s MCAT score calculator estimates section scores and a total from the number of correct answers on a practice exam. Students can then provide additional context to receive guidance and request an emailed report. The resource is available at no cost on medicalaid.org.
The announcement comes before registration for the 2027 Medical College Admission Test opens October 20 through October 22, 2026. The Association of American Medical Colleges assigns opening days by testing center location, with scheduling beginning at noon Eastern Time. Students can consult IMA’s MCAT registration guide and confirm their assigned opening day through the AAMC. Students can also schedule after opening day; the registration system remains available for dates with open appointments.
“A practice score should help a student decide what to work on next,” said Dr. Mohammad Ghassemi, Vice President and Medical Director of International Medical Aid. “Our aim is to make the result easier to understand and give students a useful starting point for a conversation with their pre-health adviser.”
For advisers and student organizations, the calculator provides a resource to review when discussing practice results. Its published conversion table makes the estimated score ranges visible, while the accompanying explanations distinguish a percentile ranking from an admissions outcome.
That distinction matters when students interpret a score. AAMC percentile ranks describe how a result compares with other MCAT results. The current ranks cover exams taken during 2023, 2024 and 2025 and remain in effect from May 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027. For example, a total score of 510 corresponds to the 79th percentile in that table. The AAMC updates the ranks each May, making the effective dates part of understanding a percentile comparison. A percentile is a comparison with a past testing population.
The calculator produces estimates, not official MCAT results or individual admission probabilities. Official MCAT section scores range from 118 to 132, and the four sections combine into a total between 472 and 528. These scales provide a common way to report performance across test dates. The AAMC explains that raw-to-scaled score conversions vary across exam forms to account for differences in question difficulty. A student’s number of correct answers therefore does not correspond to one fixed official score on every exam. Official scaled results should take precedence over an independent estimate.
