RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – October 19, 2026 – Residents of Rancho Cucamonga looking skyward on Saturday were treated to an unusual sight as an aircraft towing a political campaign banner supporting Oliver King for Mayor and David VanGorden for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2 flew over the city.

The aerial display was organized by Rancho Neighbors United (RNU), a local grassroots political group that has become increasingly visible in the weeks leading up to the November 3 municipal election.

Although the group entered the election campaign relatively late, RNU has been active on Facebook, using social media to encourage residents to take a closer look at local government, the candidates seeking office and the issues facing Rancho Cucamonga.

The group has also produced and mailed political postcards supporting King and VanGorden while calling for the recall of Lynne Kennedy.

Saturday’s aerial display represented a significant departure from conventional local political advertising.

While campaign signs, direct-mail postcards, social media posts and digital advertising are familiar features of municipal elections, an aircraft towing a political banner is a far less common sight over Rancho Cucamonga.

The unusual approach also demonstrated how grassroots political organizations are combining traditional advertising methods with modern social media to draw attention to local elections.

Ahead of Saturday’s flight, RNU had teased an upcoming announcement on its Facebook page, indicating that details would be revealed at 10:00 a.m. The aerial display subsequently brought the group’s election message into public view.

With Election Day just 17 days away, the aircraft added another dimension to an increasingly visible campaign for Rancho Cucamonga’s political leadership.

The November 3 election includes the contest for Mayor and the District 2 seat on the Rancho Cucamonga City Council, currently held by incumbent Kristine Scott.

King is seeking the mayoral office, while VanGorden is challenging Scott and fellow candidate DeJonae Shaw for the District 2 council seat.

RNU’s activities reflect the involvement of residents and community groups seeking to influence the direction of local government through political advocacy and voter participation.

Regardless of individual political preferences, Saturday’s aerial banner provided an unusual visual moment in the final weeks of the municipal election campaign.

As Rancho Cucamonga approaches November 3, residents will ultimately decide the city’s future leadership at the ballot box.
